Dr Ronan Hatfull is a Senior Associate Tutor at the University of Warwick and Lecturer at NYU London. His teaching and research specialisms are Shakespeare in adaptation and performance.

On this blog, you will find reflections on current trends in popular culture, interviews with prominent practitioners and reviews of contemporary theatre, television and film. The blog focuses predominantly on Shakespeare's influence on and presence within popular culture, whilst also exploring other aspects of stage and screen in adaptation, such as abridgement, comedy and improvisation in Fringe theatre, the reinterpretation of Greek mythology and the modern dominance of superheroes narratives.

Ronan is also an actor, director, musician and playwright, and co-founded theatre company Partners Rapt in 2016. He has written three new plays, staged productions of Julius Caesar, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing and As You Like It. Most recently, Ronan co-directed, dramaturged and composed music for Henry the Thorth at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Dell Festival, as well as playing Prince Hal in the production, which mashed up Shakespeare's history play with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Ronan has been published on a wide range of subjects in academic journals and edited collections, including Shakespearean biofiction, contemporary productions on stage and radio, teaching Shakespeare in lockdown and the relationship between Shakespeare and superhero films. He has forthcoming publications on Shakespearean forgeries and the legacy of the Macbeths’ relationship on screen.

Ronan is currently co-writing Shakespeare and Hip-Hop: Adaptation, Citation, Education (Cambridge University Press, 2023) with pedagogic rapper Devon Glover, co-editing Shakespeare and Biofiction on the Contemporary Stage and Screen (Bloomsbury Arden Shakespeare, 2023) with Dr Edel Semple, and developing a proposal to turn his doctoral thesis on the Reduced Shakespeare Company into a monograph with Bloomsbury Arden Shakespeare.
